Description
Seeds are eaten raw or cooked to flavour cakes, bread, fruit salads etc. and are perfectly safe to eat, containing none of the alkaloids associated with other parts of the plant.
Leaves can be eaten raw or cooked like spinach or as a flavouring in soups and salads, but should not be used after the flower buds have formed. Some caution is advised.
The scarlet flower petals can be made into a syrup for soups and gruels.
Some medicinal uses, similar to the Opium poppy, to be used only under medical supervision.
