MeadowSweet Herbs & Flowers Nursery and Herb Education Centre is now closed for orders from 16 December 2025 until mid-January 2026 while I take a short festive break.
Thank you for your continued support of my small, home-based nursery throughout the past year. I look forward to helping you grow plants for your kitchen, garden, and herbal home remedies cupboard when I reopen in the new year.
Wishing you a peaceful and nourishing festive season.

Echinacea – Purple Coneflower
$9.50
Echinacea purpurea is a perennial in the daisy (Asteraceae) family that grows to around 90 cm tall and 60 cm wide. It prefers full sun and moist but well-drained soils. It has broad leaves and large purple daisy-like flowers with raised orange-brown cones. Echinacea purpurea is used as a medicinal herb, is highly attractive to pollinators, and is a classic cottage and cut flower garden plant. Hardy in most NZ climates.
Echinacea purpurea, or Purple Coneflower, is the most widely grown and garden-friendly echinacea, loved for its bold daisy-like flowers with pink-purple rays and coppery cones. Native to North America, it is a magnet for bees and butterflies and flowers prolifically through summer. In herbal traditions, its roots and aboveground parts have been used to support immune health, though it is considered milder than E. angustifolia. Robust and reliable, E. purpurea tolerates heavier soils and more moisture than other species, making it easy to grow in a range of garden settings. Reaches 80–120cm tall.
