Description

Tomatillo ‘Geodes’ (Physalis ixocarpa) is a distinctive garden variety appreciated for its colourful and ornamental fruiting lanterns and sweet-tart flavour. Plants are vigorous and sprawling, producing papery husks that enclose attractive fruits ideal for fresh eating, roasting, and use in preserves or salsas. The combination of decorative husks and useful fruit makes ‘Geodes’ equally at home in edible borders, mixed beds and containers. As with all tomatillos, plant at least two cultivars for reliable pollination and best yields; grow in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and protect from frost in New Zealand.
