Foxglove – Apricot-Peach

$7.50

Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea and cultivars) is a biennial or short-lived perennial in the Plantaginaceae family that grows to 1–1.5m tall and 30–60cm wide. It prefers semi-shade to sun and moist, well-drained soils. It produces tall spires of tubular flowers in shades of white, apricot, pink, or purple, much loved by bees and pollinators. This is a beautiful white flowering cultivar. All parts of this plant are highly toxic to humans and animals.
Foxglove is grown as a cottage garden favourite and pollinator plant. Medicinal use is strictly professional only, in minute controlled doses.

Description

Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea and its cultivated colour forms) is a striking biennial or short-lived perennial cottage garden plant renowned for its tall spires of tubular flowers that bloom in shades of white, apricot-peach, pink, or purple. Its dramatic flower spikes add height and structure to borders, and the nectar-rich blooms are adored by bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators, making it an invaluable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. Foxglove prefers partial shade to full sun and thrives in moist, well-drained soils, often self-seeding to return year after year.

Important Note: All parts of foxglove are highly toxic to people, pets, and livestock if ingested, due to the presence of cardiac glycosides. It should never be used as a home remedy. Historically, Digitalis was the source of powerful heart medicines, but this is only ever undertaken by medical professionals with extreme caution. In the garden, foxglove’s role is primarily ornamental and ecological, offering a classic cottage charm and supporting pollinator populations.
