It prefers full sun to semi-shade and thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soils. It has deeply cut green leaves with silvery undersides and a strong, distinctive herbal aroma.
Mugwort is used as a culinary herb in East Asian cuisine for flavouring rice cakes, soups, and teas; as a medicinal herb it has been valued for supporting digestion, circulation, and menstrual health; and as a companion plant it can deter insect pests and enrich biodiversity.
