Shiso – Red/Purple

Shiso is an ANNUAL growing to 60cm with very aromatic, broad, frilly, ruffled purple leaves.
Prefers moist well-drained soil in full sun. nnot grow in the shade.
Leaves, flowers and seeds are edible and it has some use in Oriental medicince.
Young leaves or seedlings have a cinnamon and spicy aromatic fragrance and are added to salads. Leaves can also be dried for later use. Flowers are edible while salt-preserved seeds are used as a condiment.
The plant is often used in Oriental medicine. The pungent, aromatic herb is warming and antibacterial. It may be used in the treatment of colds and chest complaints and the leaves are applied to cuts and wounds.
