MeadowSweet Herbs & Flowers Nursery and Herb Education Centre is now closed for orders from 16 December 2025 until mid-January 2026 while I take a short festive break.

Thank you for your continued support of my small, home-based nursery throughout the past year. I look forward to helping you grow plants for your kitchen, garden, and herbal home remedies cupboard when I reopen in the new year.

Wishing you a peaceful and nourishing festive season.

Echinacea – Pale Purple

$9.50

Echinacea pallida is a perennial in the daisy (Asteraceae) family that grows to about 90 cm tall and 45 cm wide. It prefers full sun and well-drained soils. It has slender, drooping pale-pink petals around a coppery cone. Echinacea pallida is used as a medicinal herb, especially for immune support, and is also grown for pollinator and cottage gardens. Hardy in most NZ climates.

All Echinacea species and cultivars can be used medicinally, though angustifolia, pallida, and purpurea are most traditionally valued for their potency

Description

Echinacea pallida, the Pale Purple Coneflower, is a graceful prairie native distinguished by its slender, drooping pale lavender petals and prominent orange-brown central cone. The effect is delicate and airy, especially when planted en masse. Medicinally, its roots have been used in a similar way to E. angustifolia, though it is less potent. In the garden, it thrives in sunny, well-drained soils, growing 60–90cm tall. Its more open, wildflower look makes it particularly suited to naturalistic and pollinator-friendly plantings.
