Strawberry – Lipstick (Pink Flowering)

$7.50

Pink Flowering Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa ‘Lipstick’) is a perennial herb in the Rosaceae family. It prefers a sunny to lightly shaded site with moist, well-drained, fertile soil and is hardy across New Zealand. Growing 15–25 cm high and 30–40 cm wide, it forms neat mounds of dark green foliage with bright rosy-pink flowers followed by small, sweet, edible strawberries. Grown both for its culinary fruit and ornamental value, it’s ideal for pots, borders, and edible cottage gardens, and attracts bees and butterflies.

Description

‘Lipstick’ is a charming everbearing strawberry variety valued as much for its vivid pink blooms as for its sweet, edible fruit. The plant forms compact, spreading mounds of lush green leaves, sending out runners that root easily, making it excellent for hanging baskets, edging paths, or tumbling from containers. From spring through autumn, it produces a continuous display of bright pink flowers that contrast beautifully with its foliage. The small red berries are fully edible—sweet and aromatic, though less abundant than commercial fruiting varieties.
This dual-purpose plant bridges ornamental and edible gardening, bringing colour and productivity together. It prefers full sun and rich, moist but free-draining soil. ‘Lipstick’ also attracts pollinators and adds a touch of cheer wherever it grows, making it a delightful addition to potager, cottage, or children’s gardens.
